As we begin our third issue, we’ve been reflecting on the fact that it’s been a rough couple of years, from adjusting to life after the Covid-19 pandemic to the cost of living crisis, political upheaval in various countries and numerous conflicts across the globe. With all the current and impending doom and gloom in front of us, it can be tricky to look on the bright side of things, but at No! Wahala Magazine, we want to highlight the spirit of resilience in the face of hardship and complexity. And so, we arrived at the theme for Issue 3: Joy! - with an intentional exclamation mark.
This issue will encourage image makers to look for the little (or big) joys that can be encountered in everyday life, whether it’s the ability to wake up every morning, the moments of joyful solidarity, or a celebratory event. This issue prompts us to find the minute things that bring us joy in our everyday activities.
For issue 3, we invite African Photographers to explore the theme Joy! by submitting a body of work that represents what this word means to you. We define joy as ‘a feeling of great pleasure or happiness’. We encourage submissions that think outside of the box with this theme — allow your creativity to lead your visual storytelling journey.
Deadline: July 15, 2024
