The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) Photojournalists Affinity Group (PAG) is proud to announce the first annual Corky Lee/Dith Pran Asian American Photo Contest to honor two of our members who passed on too early, but left an indelible mark on the world of photojournalism.

We invite AAJA members and non-members to submit images taken between May 1 - 31, 2025 during Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) month that embody our diverse cultures and celebrate and amplify the Asian American experience.

Timeline: Photo(s) must have been created between May 1 - May 31, 2025.

Winners will be announced July 1.
1st place receives free registration to attend the AAJA National Convention July 30 - Aug 3, 2025 in Seattle, WA and a Think Tank Airport Advantage rolling camera bag. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the Winner.

Brief & Application Procedure

Eligibility:

  • Photographer must be 18 years or older.
  • Entrants may enter up to 3 photos. Each Photo is considered as 1 entry. 
  • All photographs must comply with the National Press Photographers Association Code of Ethics
  • Photo(s) must not be altered by adding, rearranging, reversing, distorting or removing element(s) from within the frame. Removal of dust or scratches is acceptable. 
  • Reasonable adjustments in Photoshop are acceptable. These include cropping, dodging and burning, conversion into grayscale, and normal toning and color adjustments that restore the authentic nature of the photograph. Filters and excessive changes in density, contrast, color and saturation levels that alter the original scene are not acceptable. 
  • Photo(s) made with non-professional digital cameras, like the iPhone or point-and-shoot cameras, are allowed but still must adhere to the same non-alter guidelines stated above (they cannot be digitally altered or manipulated images, i.e., taken with filters or other creative apps).
  • No AI photos allowed.
  • Photo(s) may not include any frames or visible watermarks.
  • Photo(s) that do not meet these requirements will be disqualified.
  • Published and unpublished photos are accepted.
  • Photographers may be asked to provide the original un-retouched file and related files. Failure to provide these may result in removal from the judging process.
  • The Judges’ decisions are final.
  • Judges and members of their immediate family are not eligible to enter.
     

Entry Fee

  • Free for AAJA members for up to three (3) images. Please contact photo@aaja.org for your code.
  • $30 for Non-members for up to three (3) images.

    Image size: Maximum 6,000px x 6,000px. Minimum 2,000px x 1,400px.

    Accepted file type: .jpg .png .gif

    Captions: Photo(s) must include proper and accurate caption information and include the 5-Ws (who, what, where, when and why) written in English and entered in the Caption field that appears when you upload your photo.

  • All information identifying the entrant, their publication and/or agency (if any) must be removed from the caption info.

  • We ask photographers not to edit their entries after the submission deadline until the judging process is completed.
