East African Photography Award 2025 - Stories

The East African Photography Award (EAPA) is an annual competition open to citizens of Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Photographers are invited to submit multi-image stories on subjects they find meaningful; from everyday life and personal experiences to broader social, cultural, or environmental themes.

The award was created to spotlight documentary photography from an East African perspective, promoting storytelling that reflects the region’s diverse realities and identities. EAPA seeks to encourage photographers to document the rapid changes happening around them; whether cultural, socio-political, environmental, or technological, and how these shifts affect individuals and communities.

By centering East African voices, the award contributes to building a more representative and nuanced visual archive of the region, rooted in local insight and lived experience.
