I travelled to Nunavut for The Globe and Mail with reporter Kelly Grant to cover a year-long series about healthcare in the territory. The opening feature is about elder care and the challenges of not just leaving home for doctor appointments, but of leaving home for complex, long-term care away from family and deep rooted Inuit culture - often for the rest of their lives. It's a heartbreaking reality of access to healthcare in Northern Canada and I hope this story brings about some systemic changes, especially for elders and their families. Big thanks to all the families we met on this trip and for sharing these important stories. And thanks to Kelly and the wonderful editing team at the Globe for giving this the space it deserves.
