In January 2020, General Qasem Soleimani was assassinated by a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad. Days later, amid heightened tensions with the U.S., Iran's IRGC shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane over Tehran, killing all on board.
The year 2020 marked a turning point for Iran, as the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani and the tragic downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 shook the nation. Soleimani’s death by a U.S. drone strike ignited tensions, both domestically and internationally, leading to protests and mourning across the country. Just days later, the Iranian military accidentally shot down the Ukrainian airliner, killing all 176 aboard.
