Life in the Shadow of Corona
Summary
In January 2021, Ayatollah Khamenei banned the import of U.S. and U.K. COVID-19 vaccines, citing mistrust. This decision delayed vaccination efforts and contributed to a rising death toll, leading Iran to eventually turn to vaccines from China and Russia.
In Iran, the COVID-19 pandemic created a profound shift in daily life, capturing a nation caught between uncertainty and resilience. Streets once bustling with life stood still, while the sense of isolation deepened. The government’s response, mixed with public fear and confusion, defined this era. This photo series highlights the quiet moments in the midst of the chaos, documenting the struggles, adaptations, and hidden stories of individuals living through one of the most challenging periods in modern Iranian history.
