Silviu Pavel
b.1980, based in Buchaest, Romania
After having graduated with a Masters degree in Telecommunication from the Bucharest Politechnic University in 2005, I started to study photography and for this purpose I attended and graduated from two private photography schools „Universitatea Dalles” and „Scoala de Poetica Fotografica – Francisc Mraz” after a period of three years of studies. Currently I am a student in Philosophy at University of Bucharest in the second year of studies.
I am not a professional photographer since my income comes entirely from the engineering business, but still I succeeded in the last four years to travel and work on personal photography projects. I am attracted by documentary photography and I try to find stories that would combine both an aestetic approach and an original subject. My first long term project started in Romania by documenting the life of people living in Dobrogea county – a poor region in the South of Romania. It has been already three years, but this is a project that I’d like to continue also in the future years. Outside Europe I’ve travelled to India, Brazil and United States where I tried to document social aspects of the every day life. Some of these were presented in exhibitions and publications.
