Using available light and a bit of serendipity, I strive to create compelling photographs that provide a glimpse into aspects of the human condition. My series Guatemala contains images from several visits to this culturally-rich country, where old traditions and new challenges are meeting in the streets and market places. From the dramatic passion and mystery of Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Antigua, to the indegenous markets of Chichicastenango, to the traditional villages surrounding Lago Atitlan, Guatemala offers an intriguing glimpse of other cultures.

As individuals interact with one another and their surroundings, the poetry of the street emerges whenever situations that are unexpected, mysterious, humorous or poignant unfold. A spontaneous gesture, an unusual juxtaposition, a concealed mood or a hidden emotion may suddenly materialize and then vanish in a split-second.  Such ephemeral events are often overlooked or quickly forgotten. My intent is to capture these fleeting moments as evocative, richly-layered photographs that will prompt us to pause and reflect on our modern lives.
