pregnancy, birth and postpartum
Bringing over 20 years of experience working as a documentary photographer creating visual stories about the lives and experiences of women and girls, my work now focuses on pregnancy, birth, early childhood and family. I approach each photo session with the sensitivity and skill I have gained, not just as a photographer, but also in my training and work as a full spectrum doula and in my own life as the mother of a wild and beautiful six year old daughter.
Using 35mm and medium format film, polaroid and digital cameras, I create documentary style portraits and capture candid moments in whatever environment you feel most comfortable - in or around your home, outdoors, or another place that’s meaningful to you and your family. No awkward posing, no complicated setup, just you and your loved ones being who you are and doing what brings you joy, together. As your birth or postpartum photographer, I create intimate images that capture the raw and beautiful experience of your birth and the exquisite first moments you share with your baby.
Pregnancy, postpartum and family sessions will usually last about 90 minutes and can be tailored to your preference in terms of whether we do mostly candid shots or more portraits, who participates (partners, children, other family members or friends), as well as how much direction or guidance you want from me. For births, I will be present for your active labor and stay for up to 90 minutes following the birth. A few weeks later you’ll receive a selection of edited proofs delivered via a private online gallery. Once you’ve chosen your favorites you'll select a custom built collection which can include archival quality fine art prints, hi-res digital downloads, photo books and more.
