Rocourt, Belgium. May 2nd, 2020. Amélie comes to see her older sister Liliane, after several weeks of lockdown. Confinement in Belgium, for elderly people living in nursing homes, has been in effect since March 11, 2020. Liliane suffers from a degenerative brain disease whose symptoms are close to Alzheimer's. She has loss of consciousness and major memory problems. Liliane used to live with her husband, Joseph. They have spent their whole lives together but the Covid19 pandemic hit their couple a few days ago. Joseph died in 4 days, alone in hospital. Far from his wife, far from his family. No one was able to say goodbye to him. Amélie comes to see her sister Liliane after this death, so difficult for the whole family. Given the pandemic context, Amélie has to content herself with seeing her sister through the window. Liliane doesn't realise that her husband is dead, but seeing her sister at the window brings her intense sorrow that she can't explain. A moment between my mum and my aunt. Thanks to this uncle who was also so present for me when I was a child. Goodbye Uncle Joseph!
