About

Adrián Villeta, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, captures in his work a past era embellished with romanticism. More than simply a photographer, Villeta considers himself a portrait artist – in the style of the great masters of the genre such as American John S. Sargent. In each one of his works, the artist searches to impart his stamp by making sure all elements of the portrait work in perfect harmony as a whole. Each photograph is printed on black and white on fiber paper or c print (matte finish) and then hand painted in oil.

His photos, imbued with an elegant romanticism, are based on a strict study. Through an in-depth analysis of various elements, such as light , color and atmosphere – as well as an insistent search to show unique details – each work is presented as a reality in itself. The past is just the basis for displaying a world of elegance and romance. Above all, he seeks to emphasize the uniqueness of each one of the subjects featured in his photographic stories.

An advocate of traditional photography, Villeta studied at Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC. With a career spanning 30 years, his work has been included in several exhibitions and his photographs are part of important private collections.
