April 21th, 2022, 6 pm – The harbor of Douarnenez, France, is slowly getting rid of its anglers and passing tourists. A loud noise rumbles from the dock. Immediately, five sailors appear and hastily jump onto the deck of the FACE À LA MER, a fishing boat specialized in sardine fishing. In the distance, the captain waves to me without a word; I follow him. The night promises to be long and uncertain for Dominique and his men. The captain warns: “It's like hunting. We know when we are going to on the sea but not when we are coming back, and even less what we’ll bring back”. This is the ambivalence of their daily life:

Ruthless, their profession has no guarantee nor safety net.

Marvellous, their nocturnal universe plunges them out of time.
