On Unfnished and Unfnishable Work
What is inside these yellow pages?
Inside, are the cries of the defeat of Mubarak’s acquittal, groans of the bird Ahmed Berin
to those who went missing in illegal immigration.. to the labourers in the white limestone
in Minya.
Inside there are arranged ideas, specifc and contextualised ... Ideas that I quest to
answer through compiling my pictures and writing about everything years after to
reason it ... also there are many random and chaotic thoughts left without answers ...
Inside are the tents in Humaithera, diferent houses in Kenya, my isolated life during
corona in Hanover, and Sheikh Al-Arab in Tanta. Through all of these, I see a lot, and I
refuge to Umm Al-Awagez , “Sayeda Zeinab”, to see more as I continue the quest ..
Important note: Approaching is permitted!
The project is collaborative; and is intended to be demolished, removed and changed
just as the ongoing demolition of the streets in Cairo and Egypt in general.
The aim is to alter the shape of the outcome; inspired by the continuous bulldozing in
the city. As some of the places and people I photographed are no longer there..
Finally, I must state again that the devastation and the change underway in the streets of
Cairo - that I loved - was the most important motive for me to demolish my own work
-myself!- just like how many places I long for in Cairo have been teared down.
