Under Islamic state control for more than three years, Raqqa has been a symbol of the extremist group’s lofty ambitions, a home to many of its leaders and the site of atrocities that have helped galvanize the coalition in the fight. Near Raqqa, it is located in Ain Issa camp were are the brides of the so-called Islamic State. They are detained in a camp for the internally displaced north of Raqqa city. They speak about life in the caliphate, and whether or not they would return to their homes. On the other side, other women on the field, such as Martyr Nujan who is part of the special body of sniper women of the Ypj, a Kurdish female militia deployed in Rojava against Islamic extremists.
