The Current is pleased to present a special screening of Disrupt(ed), followed by a conversation with filmmaker Adriana Teresa Letorney (Producer & Director), Bharat Krish (Chief Product Officer, Newsweek), and Rachel Moore.
Disrupt(ed) is a short documentary that examines the collapse of traditional media business models, its impact on freelance visual journalists, and the broader implications for democracy. Told through the experiences of Brazilian photographer Júlia Pontés and leading industry voices, the film is both a personal story and a resource guide on the systemic threats facing journalism today. This program is part of The Current’s public series, Currently Speaking: Disrupt(ed), which hosts leaders across contemporary art and media to spark dialogue between speakers, their work, and the community.

Speakers
Bharat Krish is the Chief Product Officer at Newsweek, where he leads the company’s AI-driven transformation, focusing on growth through enhanced consumer experiences and outcomes. He previously served as President of Digital and CTO at TIME, guiding its digital transformation and launching new initiatives. An entrepreneur and advisor, Bharat has founded AI/ML startups and counsels organizations including Automattic, Fusemachines, and more than 40 Techstars startups. With over twenty years of experience in media and technology, he has held senior executive roles at OTG, HBO Latin America, and NBCUniversal. Recognized in the AdWeek 50 and awarded Techstars’ “Give First” honor, Bharat is dedicated to building innovative companies and supporting minority and impact-driven entrepreneurs.
Adriana Teresa Letorney is a filmmaker, journalist, publisher, and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in visual storytelling, media, and creative technology. She is the CEO and co-founder of Visura.co and co-founder of the Scout Film Festival. Most recently, she directed and produced Disrupt(ed), which has screened at leading festivals and institutions. Her honors include the inaugural Alexia Fellowship at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School, NYU Mark & Debra Leslie Fellow, and Founder in Residence at the NYU Entrepreneurial Institute. She is an alumna of Techstars, Comcast NBCUniversal Lift Labs Accelerator, and NYU’s Journalism and Entrepreneurship programs. Adriana’s work has been featured in The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Seven Days, NY Daily News, and more.
