Bus Stop Chronicles
Summary
For the Flâneuse project, female artists worked in Lagos – navigating Lagos from the female perspective. With different visual art forms, we used different languages to express the challenges women face as they navigate an urban environment dominated by patriarchal norms and structures.
Bus Stop Chronicles is a multimedia project with special interest in photography, video & sound. It explores the use of public spaces in African cities, taking Lagos city as a case study through its bus stops (formal & informal). Highlighting strategies for negotiating and accessing spaces while engaging the architecture. Engaging the various architectures of these spaces while investigating the systems that govern them – like the area boys, and how the designs affect the space occupation, especially women who are usually victims of intimidation and harassment. It opens up discourses around the creation of safe and creative spaces.
