In Palmira, Valle del Cauca department, is the first germplasm -seed- bank in the world built with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) platinum level certification. It is called 'Seeds of the Future' (Semillas del Futuro) and has the capacity to house more than 250,000 specimens, which are vital to address the food crisis.

According to the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), it houses collections of bean, cassava and forage seeds that were gathered over the past four decades in more than 140 countries.

It is noteworthy that Jeff Bezos invested US$17 million for the construction of 'Seeds of the Future' and its research programs.
