Nice usage in the print version of The New Statesman (UK) cropped to a vertical, and the online version being full frame. Thank you to my friend and colleague Richard Baker for bringing the print version to my attention. Just some thoughts-I’ve lived in Germany now for the last 14 years and I’m based firmly in what used to be the old DDR- the East. Over that time I’ve regularly covered the fortunes of the far right from Die Dritte Weg, NPD, Identitarian movement, Querdenken, Reichsbürger Bewegung and now the reemergence of the popularity of the AfD. Polling 22% nationally in Germany and 30% to 35% in some Eastern States. The AfD‘s rise in support can be broadly attributed to rising living costs, immigration, shortages in affordable accommodation, job insecurity, low wages and the National Government’s stance over Ukraine. The AfD is poised for significant electoral gains in all forthcoming German elections. Interesting and dangerous times we live in.
