An Inside Look at Cuba’s Constant Struggle for Clean Water
Across the country, battling water scarcity requires a vast array of workers, from inspectors and fumigators to truck drivers and pipe layers.
Incredibly delighted to announce that the New York Times published my long-term project Manifiesto del Agua on Cuba’s daily water struggle. The project has finally found the podium it deserves and I am beyond happy, grateful and proud the NYTimes has given me the platform in this big and beautiful publication. In photos and text I show how different workers, like water tank inspectors, fumigators and truck drivers, battle water scarcity at the tropical communist island of Cuba. It highlights the informality and inventiveness of the Cuban system.
Those who have followed me along my journey know it was a bumpy road, and far from easy, especially in the beginning. I am beyond proud that I never have given up and being published by the New York Times feels like a crowning achievement!
This project has been made possible with the support of the Dutch Fund for In-Depth Journalism and Anna Cornelis Fonds voor Docuementary Photographers.
