A fire that does not go out: The truth and the word will set us free.

This visual chronicle is the first example of the accompaniment and coexistence in which I participated as a member of the Sueña Dignidad Collective, who traveled to talk and learn about the spaces inhabited by the Mazatec Women of the Assembly for Freedom, a month after the uprising. as self-defense. Through their words, they protect and strengthen forces to make possible the creation of a self-defense committee in response to the illegal searches and arrests that have occurred after the murder of the boy Gelacio “N”, carried out by police elements of the municipality. .
For security reasons, some names, spaces and times have been changed.

The problem that afflicts the community has not only taken away the freedom of the relatives of the six political prisoners; So far, there are 21 people with arrest warrants who have been displaced by this situation for more than nine years, despite the fact that it has been proven that the crimes they are accused of are false, through federal protections and freedoms. His whereabouts are unknown, but his daughters, wives, mothers and sisters have been the ones who have endured his absence at home and in the field. This has altered the life plans of all those politically persecuted, from verbal and physical attacks by people affiliated with the caciquil group, to illegal raids such as the case of Adelina, who lives with her seven minor children and has had to support them. only.
With the recent murder of Gelacio “N”, fear and despair have flooded the neighborhoods, causing the emergence of a Self-Defense Committee led by women willing to give their lives for the integrity of their families. I had the opportunity to be present at the beginning of their uprising and visit them for this visual chronicle.
