Public Project
Grand Egyptian Museum
During an assignment for Nature Magazine, I've had the rare opportunity to document the conservatory centre of GEM. Where hundreds of Egyptian archaeologists and conservationists are reclaiming the Ancient Egyptian heritage by collecting, conserving and preparing pieces for the grand opening. This includes over 500 never before seen pieces the belonged to King Tut.
I believe the "Indiana Jones" narrative is over. This narratives that has long been celebrated in Western media where Egyptians were seen as uneducated workers following the Western archaeologist orders. We Egyptians are capable of preserving and celebrating our heritage proudly.
