Hong Kongers and tourists participated in the Fire Dragon Dance Parade in Tai Hang and Pok Fu Lam village on September 28, 2023 in Hong Kong, China. In the 19th century, the people of Tai Hang believed they miraculously stopped a plague with a fire dragon dance. This tradition then spread from Tai Hang to Pok Fu Lam. Since then, it has become an annual event where up to 300 performers dance with a fire dragon made up of 72,000 sticks of burning incense, measuring 67 meters long, through the narrow streets of Tai Hang. In contrast, the Pok Fu Lam fire dragons are constructed from bamboo, metal wire, and straw, reaching over ten meters in length. Additionally, large balls or pomelos with sticks are used for a special part of the dance. This spectacle consistently draws large crowds, and it has made a strong comeback after reduced participation during the Covid-19 pandemic.
