Ukrainian Village Destroyed by Russians
Kids are playing at the playground, as adults gather in groups, talking, waiting for the humanitarian aid. Some of them try to find their personal belongings in ruins. Some clean the streets using old wooden brooms.
An old lady carrying a big box of food and meds. She refuses my help but shares stories about past days. Airstrikes, she says, were the worst. Russian planes usually made a round or two, and then dropped bombs at the village. There were no military bases or positions, she added. Her name is Svitlana and she speaks Russian with a Belorussian accent.
Russian retreated from Northern Ukraine at the beginning of April. If they were not stopped here, near Chernihiv, their forces would reach Kyiv, and the result of the Kyiv battle could be different. However, people in Novosilivka don't seem to care about their role in the scenario of the war. Some of their relatives died or got wounded. Their houses and belongings are destroyed.
