Summary
Nearly 300 years ago, there was a 6 years long volcanic eruption on Lanzarote, Canary Islands. The impacted area covers 1/4 of the island, and the landscape with its volcanic cones surrounded by igneous rock fields is like from another planet. Access to the area is only allowed for scientists, or in guided groups.
