Summary
The next Winter Olympic Games that will be held in 2026 in Northern Italy (Milan & Cortina d'Ampezzo) face protest; the activists say that they are unsustainable both environmentally and economically. A demonstration was held in Milan last February.
The Paris Olympic Games 2024 are about to start, but Italy has also other Olympic Games to think about. In 2026, Northern Italy will host again the Winter Olympic games; this time they will be divided between Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo (North-East). However, not everyone is welcoming the games. Some protest groups say that the games are unsustainable, both environmentally and economically. There are also worries about getting everything ready by the start of the Olympics, and the warm winters with little snow isn't really helping (of course Milan isn't famous for heavy snowing, but usually it snows at least once every winter, however, last winter it didn't snow at all).
In February 2024, some grassroots organizations held a demonstration in Milan with focus on the lack of snow and environment protection.
