Summary
A grand night spent out at the karaoke promises camaraderie, relaxation, and a chance to let loose. KaraOKOKOK? presents the progression of an evening at the karaoke bar, from the promise of a good time, to the bill payed with more than just money. The photographs not only provide a glimpse into the closed rooms to the favoured pass-time of many pan-asian cultures, but they showcase photography's under utilised capacity to tell a visual story narratively - with a beginning, climax, and end.

KaraOKOKOK? presents the progression of an evening at the karaoke bar, from the promise of a good time, to the bill payed more than just monetarily. Made during my time as a student, the photographs provide a glimpse into the closed rooms of the karaoke studios of my hometown, Perth, Australia. Where my close-knit group of friends favoured spending our free time decompressing from studying's pressures. First bonding over our shared pan-Asian heritage, a friendship reassured from our inhibition to sing in good company, and solidified with drunken memories made at evening's end - retold when the hangover subsides.- GraffitiPress Lode award 2011
