Six photographs by Michael Nguyen are presented together with other images in the interactive media station as part of the exhibition "380-780 nm. Color in Architecture and the City"

May 26 - June 28, 2024

About the Exhibition
380 to 780 nanometres: Our eyes only perceive this range of electromagnetic radiation as light. If individual wavelengths are more strongly represented in this spectrum than others, we see colours. They create a feeling of well-being or aversion, shape memories and allow us to experience rooms positively or negatively. Their random or deliberate use determines the effect of our living spaces. Colours are a central element of our designed environment - our building culture. There are few design topics that we discuss as passionately and controversially as the use of colour: it is at the centre of our perception; it affects and concerns everyone. The exhibition at the Museum der Baukultur NRW encourages us to consciously examine the effect and function of colour. "380-780 nm" invites us to participate in the question with a view to a future culture of remodelling and building: What can and what should colour do for our spatial design?

About the Museum
The Museum of Building Culture conceptualises, develops and designs exhibitions on architecture, urban and landscape design and the interfaces between art and building. The exhibition format is particularly suitable for visualising complex content and contexts in words and images and turning them into a special experience in a staging tailored to the respective theme.

Always on site - never in the same place
Buildings, urban spaces, squares and parks cannot be experienced in a museum. That is why the Museum of Baukultur takes its exhibitions to places where these architectures and urban and landscape spaces can be experienced. The exhibition theme and exhibition location merge into a single entity and become a sensory experience.

The exhibitions of the Museum of Baukultur take place wherever architects, urban planners, engineers and landscape designers plan and build pioneering projects. Wherever architectural and cultural monuments are altered or even threatened with demolition. Wherever there is a struggle for forward-looking planning and design. And wherever there is a growing interest in participating in building culture issues.
Building culture concerns us all and that is why the Museum of Building Culture is open to everyone, at constantly changing locations. This concept of a mobile museum of building culture is unique in the world of museums and supports the tasks of Baukultur Nordrhein-Westfalen.
