Peter Mugume and Simon Timbigambe of Mukaswa picking tea leaves at Kyamara Tea Plantation in Fort Portal, western Uganda. Tea Farming is a source of livelihood to quite a number of people, and among them, tea pickers. These arise before the sun and set out to the plantations cutting out the fleshy parts of tea plants, that they collect in the baskets on their backs suspended like backpacks from their shoulders. These leaves are later sieved and only the fine ones are weighed in kilograms. A tea picker is paid according to the quantity in kilograms of the fine tea leaves. On average, a tea picker makes 10,000 Ugx every day.
