THE ART OF PORTRAYING THE SOUL
Adélaide Labille-Guiard, in a famous self-portrait, looks at the viewer while painting a canvas hidden from the viewer's perspective. The pictorial image, done in 1785, recalls Monica Silva’s art.
Now I will explain why.
Monica began her career in the world of photography as a model: subject to portray in front of the lens, but the curiosity for the image and the "glittering eyes" evoked by Coleridge led her to a 180 ° turn to become a photographer.
Excellent photographer looking for lights with light. Hers are rays of interiority revealed with the lenses of the camera.
For Monica Silva the black tube technical sequence in circular lenses become a scepter to dominate the hidden appearance of the people's soul and transpose it with respect in the form of a portrait.
She learned to be at the same time the painting of Adélaide and to live like the curious Adélaide able to portray Louis XVI grandchildren and Robespierre. Labille-Guiard, was an artist above politics but also committed to the belief of the right to be not only a woman but a creative mind.
Monica Silva, a mind and a heart that develops still images rich of a kinetic potentiality.
Thanks, Monica.
I apologize for the familiarity with the artist expressed in these few lines, but my words are nothing but an inevitable gesture of affection for someone who fondles me with art.
