Asase Ye Duru "The Earth has Weight"
"Asase Ye Duru,” which literally translates to “the Earth has Weight”, symbolizes the power, wisdom, and divinity of Mother Earth according to the Akan people of Ghana. This concept emphasizes the importance of the Earth and the need to protect and nurture it.
There is a strong belief in the spiritual significance of nature in Ghana.
Every river, forest, and natural element is believed to be inhabited by spirits or deities that hold power and influence over the land and its inhabitants. These beliefs are deeply rooted in traditional religious practices and cultural traditions. Spirits are often seen as guardians and protectors, believed to have the ability to bring blessings and abundance to those who honor and respect them.
In a modern world increasingly disconnected from Mother Earth, belief in nature spirits serves as a reminder of the importance of always maintaining a symbiotic relationship with the natural world. This photographic series follows the journey of a young man from Ghana who turns to nature in search of truth and healing through its sacred wisdom.
