Tanzania Express
La Central Line è un lungo binario che taglia la Tanzania da Dar Es Salaam (all’estremo est) a Kigoma (all’estremo ovest). Le linee risalgono al periodo coloniale, quando gli europei ferrarono quei tragitti che per secoli erano stati battuti dalle grandi carovane di avorio e di schiavi.
Oggi i nuovi colonizzatori vengono dall’Asia e ripartono da qui, investendo nelle infrastrutture: le carrozze del Deluxe Train per Kigoma vengono dalla Corea del Sud, sono moderne e piuttosto confortevoli ma non possono viaggiare veloci perché i vecchi binari sono così stretti da non permettere al treno di superare gli ottanti chilometri orari.
Il nuovo presidente Magufuli, però, promette presto ammodernamenti e nuovi investimenti nel settore dei trasporti. Intanto, per due lunghi giorni, i vagoni, i viaggiatori e i loro gesti restano accomunati da ciò che in Africa dà ancora senso a tutto: la lentezza.

Central Line is a long track that cuts Tanzania from Dar Es Salaam (the extreme east) to Kigoma (the far west). The line dates back to the colonial period, when Europeans built tracks over that route wich for centuries was run by the great caravans of ivory and slaves.
Today, new colonizers come from Asia and they start investing in infrastructure: the carriages of the Deluxe Train come from South Korea, they are modern and quite comfortable but can not travel fast because the old binaries are so tight that they will not allow the train to pass the 50 mph.
The new President Magufuli promises early modernization and new investment in the transport sector. Meanwhile, for two long days wagons, travelers and their acts remain united by what in Africa still makes sense to everything: the slowness.
