I am a Photojournalist and a Documentary Photographer: Photography is a medium of expression for my activism; a means of visual communication and a positive tool to challenge, makes a statement or question both justice and injustices. My work is about finding tension of Tanzanians culture over education and gender differences. It is my journey and engagement in advocacy, experimental, observation and giving voice to those whom otherwise have no voice and compensate to a human setting.
I take accountability of every situation I photograph I do not favor other things than the other, yes, my work seeks tension rather than avoiding it, and that is what makes it unique. Nevertheless, do I require assurance? in-fact I avoid it. I believe an attitude of a journalist to a personal responsibility, for development and changing of a society when challenging injustices and valuing diversity may be expressed in his journalistic work, and that can be achieved when people share equal opportunity, equal liability and many other related differences.
Regardless of that, as a photographer and an observer, my intention is not to witness violence, but to advocacy social inequality and cultural shift, reconstruct that until equality has prevail. I photograph many ordinary things, People or situation that has lost its meaning or seems like it has lost its value and return it’s meaning to the society, while representing what is real happening in daily life, through culture, identity, diversity, creative expression and belonging, these are fundamental keys to most of my work’ I do not wish for the event, things or people I document to turn the way they are’ in fact I see it differently and capture those intimacy of daily expression.
In a personal level, I am complex, as photographer I’m subjective captivated with the visual power of images, and photography is a legitimacy way of expressing my anger. Many people I have photographed have become good friends of mine, their struggle have become my struggle, I have to live with it, not by ignoring the cruel past, but accepting it in willingness, with inclusion? and generosity.
Typical point of view:I don’t think the world is an excellent place to live, neither I do not consider that death shall take me to a better place.
