Silent Ripples: Unnoticed News Throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic
Amidst the overwhelming tide of Covid-19 news coverage, vital global events outside the realm of the pandemic were relegated to the shadows. Incidents of terrorism in Nigeria, fresh outbreaks of Ebola and significant findings concerning Syria's use of chemical weapons received minimal attention in the mainstream media. What was once headline-worthy news became mere footnotes, buried beneath the relentless, exhaustive and exhausting coverage of the pandemic.
This project serves as a reminder that life – good or bad, cruel or shocking -- continued to unfold beyond the scope of Covid-19. This visual testament to the persistence of life's rhythms references the unchanging beauty of Lake Lucerne against the backdrop of dynamic global events. It questions both the pervasive narrative as well as the selective focus of media outlets in general, and of the Covid-19 pandemic in specific.
