I had the opportunity to participate in the SDN Portfolio Reviews last weekend, where I shared my work and engaged in meaningful conversations with an inspiring community of documentary photographers and photo editors.

About the project...
Colombia has a deep, complex history with cannabis, reaching its peak during the Bonanza Marimbera of the 1970s and ’80s. Over time, laws have evolved—home cultivation was legalized in 1986, personal use decriminalized in 1994, and medical cannabis approved in 2016—yet recreational sales remain illegal.
Today, a growing movement pushes for responsible use, education, and self-cultivation, while medical cannabis continues to benefit many. An estimated 8.3% of Colombians have used cannabis, yet illegal crops remain a source of conflict, especially in northern Cauca, where armed groups, including guerrillas, still exert control.
‘Cannábicos’ is a visual project that delves into Colombia’s shifting cannabis landscape, spotlighting the communities and initiatives challenging decades of stigma and redefining the plant’s place in society.
