Guarimbas
After the death of Hugo Chávez and the consequent presidential elections in Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro came to power on April 19, 2013. A year into his term, and as a result of crime, high inflation and the shortage of basic products that the country was facing, in February 2014 the most radical sectors of the opposition called for a demonstration in front of the Attorney General's Office. The demonstration resulted in 3 people killed by the police and triggered 3 months of daily protests that took place in the middle and upper class neighborhoods of Caracas, and in the main cities of the country. The riots or "Guarimbas", as Chávez called them, left 43 dead, and ended with a forced dialogue between the government and the opposition that failed. Nowadays Venezuela continues with one of the highest inflation rates in the world.
