Location : Paris, Ile Saint-Louis 

Twelve years ago Professor Kabir and her husband, Professor Mrinal Dasgupta, spent 

three months on sabbatical in Paris, living in a small top floor flat in the beautiful Ile 

Saint-Louis. Professor Dasgupta worked in the nearby Physics Department at the 

Campus Pierre et Marie Curie (Jussieu) while Professor Kabir completed her book on 

Kashmir, ‘Territory of Desire’ from their flat. 

It was a pleasure to recreate for professor Kabir memories of that special time, 

particularly significant during the pandemic when all travel has been impossible.
