Soy Quebrada
The collective "Guardianes del Ilaló" (Guardians of Ilaló), made up of environmental and cultural organizations, academic institutions, and individuals committed to life, combines science, art, education, spirituality, and activism with the strength of local residents to restore the ravines of the Ilaló volcano — key areas for its biodiversity. The following essay is the result of documentation and shared experience during a minga (community work gathering) at one of Ilaló’s ravines, called "Rumihuayco", in Tumbaco, Ecuador. The main objective of the minga was to control the spread of Thunbergia alata, an African vine that is displacing native species and threatening local ecosystems.
