New York City is new to the idea of early voting. The Board of Elections ran what was in effect two dry runs last year during borough elections. This is the first time the city has had in-person voting in a national race. A poll worker in Queens said he found 80 people waiting outside the polling site when he arrived at work the first day. It takes the heat off Election Day when the lines are long early in the morning, but the two- and three-hour waits of early voting are gone.
