Water Earth Stone
The magnificence of the North Pacific is largely unspoiled on the coast of British Columbia, in woodland areas outside Vancouver and down the Pacific Coast, along rugged beaches in Mendecino, Big Sur, Tamales Bay and Carmel River Beach until the glory of the Southland sunsets in Malibu . My lens was transfixed by the raw clean power of the sea. The sheer force of a natural waterfall onto slate rock canyons is humbling. The dramatic dance of unpolluted rivers, streams, and waterfalls flow playfully throughout these unspoiled ocean-scapes. Yet in spite of this sacred beauty in the Pacific Northwest there is real concern that these commons could become contaminated. Unbridled consumption as well as unregulated fracking, mining and clear cut lumber practices, threatens even the most remote water resources. And the looming peril of global warming and historic draught in California demonstrates that our most treasured natural resource is far too vulnerable. The images in Water “ The Driving Force Of Nature", should remind us what we could loose. From the pristine waters of North Pacific to the wild rivers of the Big Sur Coast and open expanse of the Mexican shore, pure water is vanishing and with it life as we know it.
As Earth breathes Mother nature transmits life. Filled with oxygen and moisture, the dense forests of the Pacific Northwest are resplendent with radiant legacy, ancient forests that continue to survive despite the blistering draught and infestation of bark beetle. Our treasured redwoods, and sleepy lagoons are the essence of serenity and beauty. Inside this solitude the vulnerable wildlife waltzes through afternoons under a canopy of ferns and Sequoias. The reflection of mother nature ripples through the maze of forests and fauna that crown the coast in an endless chorus of coniferous growth.
Stone and sun baked earth stand tall atop the scorched sand and pulsing heat, unforgiving yet glorious, inhabiting endless distances of open space, with clusters of steep rising structures that stride upwards towards the sky. Draught ridden ground, jutting out of the age old lands of the high desert, invited in by the congregation of Joshua Trees that have lived throughout time. The fertility of water and earth is no match for the merciless fire inhabiting the desert.
This is a three part series.
