The mobilization of thousands of impoverished indigenous people to Quito, the capital of the country, forced us to look at what, in everyday life, most people do not see: children with chronic child malnutrition; peasants who produce much of the food without their effort allowing them to have a decent life; absence of the State in the most impoverished communities; young people with no hope for the future.

The president —the most important one— and all the other political leaders now have the enormous responsibility of helping to heal those deep wounds that the national strike left throughout society. And that comes with a profound, pacifying, and concrete dialogue, and it also comes with tangible responses from the Government: return to rural areas, reduce economic gaps and guarantee access to health and education for the poorest.

Without that, the rise of another violent protest is only a matter of time.
