Several thousand people gathered outside Downing Street, London on Tuesday to protest against Israel's continuing eviction of Palestinians from East Jerusalem which is seen by many as ethnic cleansing. Peaceful protest highlighted UK's support for Israel's oppressive regime and called for end of arming of the Jewish state. Violent protests erupted in the disputed capital Jerusalem and elsewhere in the country after Palestinians accused Israel's security forces of restricting the rights to gather and pray during the holy month of Ramadan, followed by storming of the Al Aqsa mosque compound, a holy site to both Jews and Muslims. In a parallel development, plans to evict hundreds of Palestinians from the homes they have lived in for decades in Sheikh Jarrah, East Jerusalem, and giving them to Jewish settlers, have sparked more clashes and international condemnation.
