Summary

The Passion of the Christ in Iztapalapa is an epic theatrical play performed annually outdoors in Iztapalapa, Mexico City, during the Catholic Holy Week celebrations. Recreating the passion of Christ, its first performance was in 1843.

The tradition of reenacting the Passion of Christ in the Iztapalapa municipality celebrates its 182nd edition in 2025. Hundreds of faithful carry their wooden crosses in gratitude, beginning or ending the "mandas" promises made to request a miracle. According to official statistics, this year, 2025, more than one million people attended.
