Dozens were arrested for refusing to leave when asked by the Chicago Police Department. The protest and protestors were peaceful and orderly and were arrested without incident.
The protest was organized by several Jewish groups including IfNotNow, Jewish Voice For Peace, and Never Again Action. Protestors demanded an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip where according to estimates about 11,000 Palestinians, half of them children, have so far been killed by the Israeli military’s constant bombing of the civilian neighborhoods.
While Israeli Officials deny purposefully targeting civilian infrastructure, and regret civilian deaths, to date, seven Hospitals in Gaza and many schools and other civilian infrastructure have been targeted and either destroyed or made non-functional.
According to a press release:
IfNotNow is a movement of American Jews organizing our community to end U.S. support for the Israeli government's apartheid system, and to demand equality, justice, and a thriving future for all Palestinians and Israelis.
Jewish Voice for Peace is the largest progressive Jewish anti-Zionist organization in the world, organizing in solidarity with the Palestinian freedom struggle.
Never Again Action is a Jewish-led mobilization against the persecution, detention, and deportation of immigrants. (Nima Taradji/Polaris)
