Irma Bohórquez-Geisler, a Staten Island-based Mexican-American photographer residing in New York City since 1991, born in Mexico City, became aware of her Mexican identity by living abroad, shifting between cultures while preserving her own. The aim of her project, which began in 2001, is to document the historical migration of Mexican into New York, especially Staten Island, focusing on how immigrant communities bring and adapt their rich culture and how they establish themselves in their adoptive country. Most Mexican families are located in Port Richmond, Tompkinsville, but now significant numbers of live in other areas of Staten Island beyond its North Shore.

The Migration Stories exhibition, curated by Tara Sabharwal, presents paintings, photographs, prints, drawings and installations.
